Pañcaveṇī (Maha-Prayaga)

Nityananda spoke, “Listen everyone! This is Pañcaveṇī, where five rivers join the Ganges. The Bhāgīrathī mixes with the Mandākinī and the Alakanandā, and the Sarasvati flows here hidden from view. From the west, the Yamuna flows along with the Bhogavati. The Manasa-ganga also quickly flows there. This place is called Maha-Prayaga by the rṣis, who performed millions of sacrifices here along with Lord Brahmā. The glories of this place are incomparable. If one takes bath here, he will not take another birth. Who can describe the glories of this place? All other tirthas become like dried up rivers in comparison. One who leaves his body here on the earth, in the air, or in the water will attain Śrī Goloka Vṛndāvana.
(Sri Navadvipa-Dhama-Mahatmya, Chapter 11)

Near Uccahatta is Pañcaveni, the holy place where the demigods come to rest. At this place the three streams of the Ganges (Bhagirathi, Mandakini, and Alakananda), as well as the Yamuna and the Sarasvati all join together with a desire to serve Gauranga.
Gauranga and His associates purified this tirtha of the sins of Kali-yuga by taking bath here. Vyasadeva and the rsis have not seen any place in the fourteen worlds that compares with Pañcaveni.
When will I remember the lotus feet of Sri Gauranga after bathing in the waters of the Pañcaveni? After filling my hands and drinking the water that washed the lotus feet of Gaura. I will be blessed and intoxicated remembering topics of Gauranga.
(Sri Navadvipa Bhava-taranga)

When Rūpa Gosvāmī . . . he was minister in the government of Nawab Hussain Shah. At that time, very exalted personality. He could understand Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s mission. Therefore when he first met Him at Allahabad, Prayāga, he offered his respect with these words: namo mahā-vadānyāya, the most munificent incarnation. Why? Kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te: “You are distributing kṛṣṇa-prema. It is very difficult to understand Kṛṣṇa, but You are so kind that You are immediately delivering love of Kṛṣṇa.”

There are several places in India. One of them is this Naimiṣāraṇya, and another place, important place is . . . that is called Prayag, generally known as Allahabad, but original name is Prayag. That is considered to be one of the most sacred place in India, and still every year there is a fair called Māgha-melā.
Māgha means during the month of January, February. A fair takes place in which all the sages, saintly persons, from all over parts of India, they gather, and they take their bath on the confluence of Gaṅgā and Yamunā. That is also very nice place. When you . . . if you visit India, you should see all these nice places.

So Lord Caitanya, taking compassion on these poor fellows, He taught love of Godhead. If you love Kṛṣṇa, then you will feel pleasure. Ānandamayo 'bhyāsāt (Vedānta-sūtra 1.1.12). In the Vedānta-sūtra it is said that "Every living creature is searching after pleasure." Pleasure. Therefore we have presented this small booklet, that Kṛṣṇa is the Reservoir of Pleasure.
If you can love Kṛṣṇa, then you will get pleasure. Otherwise, there is no pleasure. You will be frustrated. This is a fact. If you take it, it is nice. If you don't take it, then that is your misfortune.
So Lord Caitanya taught this love of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore one of His first disciples, Rūpa Gosvāmī, when he first met Lord Caitanya at Prayag, Allahabad, he offered his respects by composing one verse in Sanskrit:
namo mahā-vadānyāya
kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te
kṛṣṇāya kṛṣṇa-caitanya-
nāmne gaura-tviṣe namaḥ
(CC Madhya 19.53)
He said: "My dear Lord Caitanya, You are the most magnanimous personality in this world, most munificent, charitable. You are giving the most nice thing. What is that? Kṛṣṇa-prema, love of Kṛṣṇa." There are many charitable institution and foundation, they are giving charities to many institution and many function. But here Lord Caitanya's charity, giving free the love of Kṛṣṇa, that was very much appreciated by Rūpa Gosvāmī, and therefore he said, namo mahā-vadānyāya kṛṣṇa-prema-pradāya te, kṛṣṇāya kṛṣṇa-caitanya-nāmne. And this love of Kṛṣṇa cannot be bestowed by anyone else except Kṛṣṇa Himself.
