HH Tatpar Maharaj

Information – His Holiness Tatpar Swami, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. He was one among the first Bengali devotees to take initiation from Srila Prabhupada.
Tatpar Maharaja joined ISKCON in 1970 and was first initiated in 1972. He accepted second initiation in 1973. Maharaja lived for many years in Mayapur, India where he preached the message of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
HH Subhag Swami reflected on Tatpar Maharaja’s character on his samadhi ceremony in Mayapur as “He was very bold and visited sensitive areas in Kolkata to preach. He was instructed by Srila Prabhupada to take care of the Mayapur ISKCON property when it was first purchased. Even during floods, he used to climb onto the thatched hut roof to watch for any thieves.

Jayapatākā: Now they have a . . . I put a two-man team. A two- or three-man team. Subhaga, there’s one boy Kiśora, and, what’s his name, Tatpur. Between the three of them they check and recheck.

Prabhupāda: Tatpur is educated?

Jayapatākā: He’s got a B.A. or something.

Prabhupāda: Oh.

Gargamuni: Tatpur has a B.A.?

Jayapatākā: Yes. He doesn’t write himself. He writes in old fashion. But he corrects for just double-checking philosophy. Editing. And this Kiśora, he was a M.A., and he previously used to write. He was an honor student at Calcutta University, and he used to freelance write in Bengali. So his style is very nice.
